I won’t be reblogging any gory photos since I don’t like doing that for anyone-she can’t consent to that now-but god bless her family.

Kuffiyeh Arabeyyeh Official Music Video by Shadia Mansour Ft. M1 (from Dead Prez)

I wish I could understand what she was saying. She is amazing!!!

“We rhyme with our middle fingers up to the zionist cause we don’t give a fuck.”

shadia mansour is the baddest, i swear

“the symbolism is resistance”

OMG THIS MY JAM

I also don’t know what she’s saying, but I know it’s amazing.

The Kuffiyeh is Arabic

“Good morning, cousins; y’all welcome, come in.
What would you like us to serve you, Arab blood or tears from our eyes?”
I think that’s how they expected us to receive them.
That’s why they got embarrassed when they realized their mistake.

That’s why we rocked the kuffiyeh, the white and black.
Now these dogs are startin’ to wear it as a trend.
No matter how they design it, no matter how they change its color,
The kuffiyeh is Arabic, and it will stay Arabic.

The gear we rock, they want it; our culture, they want it;
Our dignity, they want it; everything that’s ours, they want it;
Half your country, half your home; why, why? No, I tell ‘em.
Stealin’ something that ain’t theirs, I can’t allow it.
They imitatin’ us in what we wear, wear; this land is not enough for them. What else do you want?
They’re greedy for Jerusalem. Learn how to say “human beings”.
Before y’all ever rocked a kuffiyeh, we here to remind ‘em who we are.
And whether they like it or not, this is our clothing style.

[Chorus:]
That’s why we rock the kuffiyeh, cuz it’s patriotic.
The kuffiyeh, the kuffiyeh is Arabic.
That’s why we rock the kuffiyeh, our essential identity.
The kuffiyeh, the kuffiyeh is Arabic.
Come on, throw up the kuffiyeh (throw that kuffiyeh up for me).
The kuffiyeh, the kuffiyeh is Arabic.
Throw it up! Come on, Greater Syria!.
The kuffiyeh is Arabic, and it will stay Arabic.

[Verse 2:]
There’s none yet like the Arab people.
Show me which other nation in the world was more influential.
The picture is clear: we are the cradle of civilization.
Our history and cultural heritage testify to our existence.
That’s why I rocked the Palestinian gear,
From Haifa, Jenin, Jabal al Nar to Ramallah.
Let me see the kuffiyeh, the white and red.
Let me throw it up in the sky; I’m
Arab, and my tongue creates earthquakes.
I shake the words of war.
Listen, I’m Shadia Mansour, and the gear I’m rockin’ is my identity.
Since the day I was born raisin’ people’s awareness been my responsibility.
But I was raised between fear and evil; between two areas,
Between the grudging and the poor, I seen life from both sides.
God bless the kuffiyeh; however you rock me, wherever you see me,
I stay true to my origins: Palestinian.

the point of making the statement that the kuffiyeh is arabiya is because it is just one piece of palestinian culture that has been co-opted by israelis as a fashion statement. arabic music, food, and other clothing has been re-named as israeli music, food, and clothing. this is why you see “israeli” restaurants serving arabic food like houmous. it’s one way for arabs & arab culture to be erased and for israeli “culture” to take it’s place. this is typical genocidal behavior that was also done by the u.s. settlers to native people here.

culture is important and this video affirms that the kuffiyah is a political symbol with meaning. for palestinians & arabs our culture is often really tied up with the politics of our region & you either resist or forget.

this video spoke to me, to hear the arabic and see her standing in falasteen wearing those clothes. reminds me even in my americanized state that culture is worth fighting for.

reblogging for commentary.

Why boycott Israel? | A founding member of the campaign for the academic and cultural boycott outlines the motivation behind the movement.

"The logic of the BDS movement has also remained consistent. The basic logic of BDS is the logic of pressure, not diplomacy, persuasion, or dialogue. Diplomacy as a strategy for achieving Palestinian rights has proven to be futile, due to the protection and immunity Israel enjoys from hegemonic world powers and those in their orbit.
Second, the logic of persuasion has also shown its bankruptcy, since no amount of “education” of Israelis about the horrors of occupation and other forms of oppression seems to have turned the tide. Dialogue between Palestinians and Israelis, which remains very popular among Israeli liberals and Western foundations and governments that fund the activities, has also failed miserably. Dialogue is often framed in terms of “two sides to the story”, in the sense that each side must understand the pain, anguish, and suffering of the other, and to accept the narrative of the other.
This presents the “two sides” as if they were equally culpable, and deliberately avoids acknowledgment of the basic coloniser-colonised relationship. Dialogue does not promote change, but rather reinforces the status quo, and in fact is mainly in the interest of the Israeli side of the dialogue, since it makes Israelis feel that they are doing something while in fact they are not. The logic of BDS is the logic of pressure. And that pressure has been amplifying.”
